How do I make my profile stand out?

Your profile is your opportunity to tell your story in your own words. From your resume to your Scouted Virtual Interview, this is your chance to shine! Below, we have some tips to help you create a profile that will help you put your best foot forward:

Profile:

  • The more complete your profile is, the easier it will be for our Scouts to a) advocate on your behalf and b) understand where you may be a good fit for a role. A complete profile also means fewer hoops a potential employer will need to jump through to make sure you are the right candidate.
    • We recommend completing all fields in the "Career Preferences" section of your Profile as a starting point
  • Be specific. If you only want to work in San Francisco, be sure to include that in your profile so our Scouts can keep an eye out for roles that might suit your specific needs.

Resume:

  • Check out our preferred resume template here.
  • Keep it short and sweet; resumes that are longer than a page or two tend to get overlooked.
  • Avoid photos
  • Skip the fancy fonts and colors. And definitely don’t use red!

Scouted Virtual Interview:

  • The Virtual Interview is optional for many roles, but we still highly recommend it if you want to stand out — check out why here.
  • Remember that potential employers see/read this after you opt into a role. While they know this step is not as formal as a traditional interview, we still recommend that you follow a few best practices:
    • Be aware of your surroundings. Don't lay in your bed/do it in the car on your phone/etc.
    • Try to look presentable in decent lighting. You don’t need to wear a three-piece suit here, but perhaps skip the PJs, and put on a shirt!
    • Be thoughtful about your answers and be as open as you can.
    • Proofread, proofread, proofread! It might help to do your written answers in a word processor and then paste the answer into the text box for your interview.
